What on earth do you mean with a little vibration?
I am referring to vibration training. You know standing on those vibrating platforms to, supposedly, stimulate your muscles more.

Wasn’t that a fad a few years ago?
It was indeed, and it has seemed to pass and this is why this piece of research caught my eye — I still have a vibration training platform at home (and use it regularly).

So what was this research?
Yang et al. at Georgia State University wanted to see if vibration training helped with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is neurodegenerative disease whereby the myelin sheath of neurons degenerates through faulty autoimmune function and this leads to problems in movement and coordination.

How did they do this?
They put 18 MS patients through 6 weeks of vibration training (with a control group). Of note is how short these sessions were. They stared off at 5x1 minute with 1 minute break between the 1 minute sessions. This increased to 5 x 1.5 minutes for the final two weeks.

So maximum of only 7.5 minutes training!
Yes, that short, and only three times per week. Also important to note, maybe, is that these were oscillating vibration machines i.e. one side raises as the other side…
