Andy’s Quick Hits (73): The Importance of Psychological Capital (Especially in Pandemics)

During the pandemic there has been a lot of talk about mental health and the potential negative impacts of this. This in multiple ways, increased loneliness, which I have reported on multiple times, increased stress, and increased depression. However, two avenues have not been explored.

Firstly, the fact that many people have also reported deceased stress and increased productivity — this is what our international study found. Secondly, what is it that modifies or reduces stress — or who is most susceptible?

A study just published has shown that psychological capital has buffered the effects of the pandemic. This is interesting because it also shows who will mostly be more stress resistant in multiple scenarios. Indeed psychological capital is just that, a buffer against life’s tough times.

So what is Psychological Capital and what did the researchers find?
