What! I need to be fresh in the morning? I’m not really a morning person…
Hold your horses and don’t get ahead of yourself. This study out of Portland State University by Charlotte Fritz et al. was about how leaders reattach to work in the morning. Not necessarily about how early or fresh. Though some freshness is required I presume.

Ahh, and what do they mean by “reattach”?
It’s about mentally reconnecting with your work — so for example thinking through what you want to achieve in the day before you even get to the office or open your first email.

Isn’t this the old power hour principle recommended by thousands of coaches like yourself?
Yes, indeed. This makes some of us coaches roll our eyes and wonder why it has taken so long for academics to catch up with something we find obvious! But then again there are many things coaches recommend which are junk and have been debunked by science so good to have some solid empirical evidence to back this up. Also this study focused specifically on leaders and not just workers.

So, this does help leaders then?
Yes, we’ve known for a while that good reattachment principles which, by the way, don’t have to be an hour, but more like a few…
